GEZORA-GANIME-KAMEBA: KESSEN! NANKAI NO DAIKAIJU (Yog, The Space Amoeba) DVD (Japan Import)
The last non-Godzilla film directed by Ishiro Honda and scored by Akira Ifukube. Shot on location in Guam, the film stars many of the actors the director used in "Destroy All Monsters." Appearing are Akira Kubo, Atsuko Takahashi, Yukiko Kobayashi (the girl under alien control, now our requisite native girl), Kenji Sahara (usually the hero, here chewing up the scenery as the villain Makoto Obata), and Yoshio Tsuchiya playing another scientist. Cheesy by the standards of Honda-san's work ten years earlier, the film has its own special charm. Alien spore creatures hitches a ride on a space probe and heads for earth. Crash landing off an island being studied for a resort, the alien life forms take over and enlarge three local creatures, a squid (Gezora), a crab (Ganime) and a snapping turtle (Kameba, who also made a brief appearance as a corpse in Tokyo SOS). The disc, like all Toho release has no English subtitles, but bonus features include a photo gallery.Original Release Year: 1970
